Despite the fact that the transfer window is closed at the moment, there are still many rumours circulating around clubs in the English Premier League. Most the the speculation seems to be concerning the top teams in the league, including Liverpool and Chelsea. The rumours will only increase following big away defeats by Liverpool and Chelsea so let s get started.
We start off my addressing the transfer speculation surrounding Chelsea and Stamford Bridge. According to a Andre Villas-Boas, striker Nicolas Anelka wants to leave Stamford Bridge for greener pastures. It remains a mystery why Chelsea did not sell Anelka, who is in the last year of his contract. Surely, Anzhi Makhachkala would have coughed up 15 million pounds for the Frenchman, right?
As for what Villas-Boas told the media, here it is:
Nico as a person is very, very happy, he belongs to Chelsea in the last year of his contract, performing.
We will make our efforts for him to renew but Nico has his own decision to make and I am not sure he will be willing.
N0t many people would believe that Chelsea would make an effort to resign Anelka after 2011-12. Why? Well I can think of three reasons: Fernando Torres, Romelu Lukaku, and Daniel Sturridge. Despite Torres mixed results today at Old Trafford, the Spaniard bagged his second goal for Chelsea. Yes, only two goals for the talisman . Let s try to forget his two misses with the goal gaping at his mercy. Aside from Torres, the Blues also have two very good young players in Romelu Lukaku and Daniel Sturridge.
In other news, Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala are reportedly targeting Chelsea s Frank Lampard and Liverpool s Steven Gerrard. According to the Metro, Anzhi are willing to offer Lampard and Gerrard two-year contracts in excess of £26 million. Now then, will Lampard and Gerrard be lured in to Russia for the money?
Highly doubtful. The main reason being that Lampard and Gerrard are legends at their current clubs. Not only would leaving Chelsea and Liverpool be a mistake, but it would mean leaving home for two of the English Premier League s best players. For those reasons I cannot see Lampard and/or Gerrard following former Inter talisman Samuel Eto o to Russian club Anzhi.
In other transfer news surrounding Anfield, the Reds are keen on bringing another Uruguayan into their side. This time it s an attacking midfielder, which is only fitting because the Merseysiders have already brought in an Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez and an Uruguayan defender centre-back Sebastian Coates under manager Kenny Dalglish.
Bologna s 20-year-old starlet Gaston Ramirez is the latest player on the Reds wish list. Reports out of Anfield are suggesting that Kenny Dalglish is willing to pay 10 million euros for the Uruguayan. It s just a matter of time before the Reds complete the Uruguayan treble, one striker, one midfielder, and one defender.
