Max Kruse set for Wolfsburg exit

Germany international forward Max Kruse is set to be offloaded by Wolfsburg in the summer transfer window, .

The 28-year-old only joined last summer from Borussia M’gladbach, but the club chiefs became fed up with his off-the-pitch incidents and they have decided to place the striker on the transfer list.

According to Bild, Wolfsburg have placed a €9 million price tag on the experienced footballer, and it remains to be seen whether there will be clubs ready to match their valuation.

Kruse is reportedly held in high regard by sides in England, USA and China, and he recently admitted he wouldn’t mind moving to an exotic destination.

The German forward scored a total of 6 goals in 32 league matches for Wolfsburg last term, while netting 2 times in 9…

CAF Confederation Cup Preview: Coton Sport out for Al Ahly revenge

Coton Sport will be out for revenge when they play Al Ahly in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup semi-final on Saturday.

In October last year the Egyptian giants beat the Cameroonians on penalties in the semi-finals of the continent s premier club competition, the CAF Champions League.

Vengeance will not be easy, though. Al Ahly will be filled with confidence after they beat arch-rivals Zamalek on penalties to claim their eighth Egypt Super Cup on Sunday.

The Cairo giants will also be keen to add to their 19 international club trophies, which has seen them being officially recognised by CAF this year as the most decorated club in the world.

With both AC Milan and Boca Juniors on 18 international club trophies, the addition of the CAF Confeder…

Solve the Rooney puzzle and restore Sterling´s confidence: Five problems for Allardyce to solve

Following Euro 2016 humiliation, new England manager Sam Allardyce takes charge of a national team caught somewhere between crisis and disenchantment.

Allardyce signed a two-year deal to replace Roy Hodgson, who announced his resignation after England s tournament closed with a dreadful last-16 loss to Iceland

Here, we look at the five major issues in his in-tray.

STAGE FRIGHT

How much a forgettable campaign in France took out of England s players might only become apparent when they convene for their opening 2018 World Cup qualifier against Slovakia on September 4. But a glaring lack of composure under pressure was in evidence during the shambolic second-half display versus Iceland.

Opponents will be keen to test whether the Three…

Valcke signs off on goal-line technology

Goal-line technology is set to be used in elite competition after FIFA agreed to make it available at this month s Club World Cup in Japan.

Calls have been growing in recent years for the introduction of technology to assist referees, accelerated by high-profile incidents such as Frank Lampard s disallowed goal for England in their 2010 World Cup defeat to Germany.

After being rolled out at the Club World Cup, FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke has said goal-line technology, involving either a computer chip imbedded in a ball or Hawk-Eye, will be implemented at major international tournaments.

It s a big day because it s the first time that the technology will be used officially in a game or in games, Valcke said ahead of the Club World Cup opener between Au…

Brown has a Sunderland future

Sunderland defender Wes Brown is now in manager Paolo Di Canio s first-team plans, the Italian has confirmed.

Brown has struggled badly with injury since moving to the Stadium of Light in 2011 and has not played in a competitive fixture since January 2012.

However, the former Manchester United man continued his return to full fitness on Wednesday, scoring in his side s 3-1 pre-season win over Tottenham.

While Di Canio had initial reservations on Brown s fitness, the 33-year-old is now a key part of his squad.

I have to be honest and say that with a team I wanted to rebuild, I thought at the beginning that he was not on my list for the future, the Italian told The Sunderland Echo.

After one year and two months out, at his age, I couldn’t start thinking a…

Manchester City 3-0 Bayern Munich: What Were The Key Talking Points As Pep Guardiola’s Side Storm To A Champions League Romp At The Etihad?

In what was a stunning Champions League display on Tuesday night, Manchester City laid down a heavyweight European marker as they cruised their way to a 3-0 romp against Bayern Munich at the Etihad.

Putting in a performance that would have been heard across Europe, it was Rodri who opened the scoring in the 27th minute as the Spanish midfielder produced a thunderous 30-yard strike.

While many might have felt that Pep Guardiola s side could face a real first-leg tussle on home soil, the Premier League giants will know that they have one foot firmly in the Champions League semi-finals.

Not looking back after returning from the half-time break as Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland bagged a quickfire brace, there is no doubt that Tuesday s display at the Etihad will …

Berahino not for sale; Oscar signs new Chelsea deal

West Bromwich Albion chairman Jeremy Peace has insisted highly-rated striker Saido Berahino is not for sale amid ongoing reports linking the player with a big-money move away from the Hawthorns.

Berahino, who has bagged seven goals in 11 English Premier League appearances for Albion this season, earned his first England call-up last week and could win his first cap against Slovenia or Scotland next week.

Berahino recently suggested he may have to leave West Brom to achieve his dream of playing in the UEFA Champions League, but Pearce has revealed the 21-year-old is not going anywhere, and rightly so.

I wish to assure our supporters that Saido Berahino will not be going anywhere in January or, I hope, next summer.

It is not in our minds at …

Torino in ambitious bid for Giovinco

Serie A outfit Torino are considering a January bid for Juventus forward Sebastian Giovinco, .

It is no secret I Granata are in the market for attacking reinforcements and the latest reports suggest they have made the Italy international their number one target.

Having recruited Fabio Quagliarella in the summer, Torino look set to bring another attacker from arch rivals Juventus.

Sebastian Giovinco is reportedly looking to leave Juventus in search of first team football and with his contract due to expire in the summer, chances are quite a few top clubs will try and recruit him in January.

Torino obviously face an uphill task, but the club officials are willing to try and pull off what would be a great coup for the club.

The 27-year-old returned …

Kovac ´very confident´ Bayern will sign Man City´s Sane

Bayern Munich coach Niko Kovac is very confident Leroy Sane will join the Bundesliga champions from Manchester City.

Germany international Sane has spent three seasons at City since leaving Schalke, developing into one of Europe s best wingers.

He scored 10 goals in each of the past two Premier League seasons, a particularly impressive feat in the most recent campaign given he only made 21 starts.

There have been suggestions coach Pep Guardiola lost some of his trust in Sane in 2018-19, hence a decrease in his line-up appearances.

Another day, another session

Bayern have made no secret of their desire to bring the 23-year-old to the Allianz Arena and, although City s reported £90million asking price is …

Wenger: Arsenal were interested in Aquilani

Alberto Aquilani is expected to make his debut for Liverpool against Arsenal, as Carling Cup resumes on Wednesday night, but Arsene Wenger has revealed that the Italian could have been donning the red shirt of the home side.

Aquilani joined Liverpool from Roma for a fee of £20 million over the summer but has been prevented from making his debut due to injury. With his fitness problems now behind him, the Italy international should make an appearance in this Cup fixture.

But Aquilani was also a player who interested Arsenal following some eye-catching performances in Serie A and Wenger only halted his pursuit when the player suffered from fitness problems last season.

Yes I know him well, Wenger told the club s official website.

He played against us…
